    Alans* lol

I would’ve agreed with you, but Stephen does say it orbits the Earth every 770 years. Maybe it’s classified as a moon (by at least the QI elves) because it enters the Earth’s orbit without crashing, acting as a second moon during this period, and then it leaves, to return again one day.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be classified as an asteroid, I think it should, but it’s the closest thing we have to a second moon than anything.

  3. kitchenaut says:

It’s not a moon by dint that it orbits the sun more than it does the Earth. I don’t think it’s orbit qualifies it as a moon.

  4. kitchenaut says:

If you look at how it orbits the Sun, it is not a moon of Earth at all. It is a quasi satellite.

  5. Alapaca123 says:

Alan Davies reminds me of an older version of the kid from Outnumbered (:

  6. kbd0wn4g3 says:

there was a new moon discovered

  7. BhangramansBabe says:

Wardrobe malfunction – Alan’s got big sweat marks under his armpits!

  8. xDaalleeeeX says:

Because of this, Cruithne and Earth appear to “follow” each other in their paths around the Sun. This is why Cruithne is sometimes called “Earth’s second moon”.[2] However, it does not orbit the Earth and is not a moon.[

copy n pasted from wikipedia, im nto saying wikipedia is always correct. but im sure the researches for QI would have got some info from it..

  9. 0Allegra0 says:

Blue moon I saw you standing ALONE! not with a small friend! Love it

  10. xwolfanimagusx says:

aww, so awesome. Lovin the Cruithne raps ;)

  11. Albimar17 says:

Love Rich Hall’s reaction to that question! :D

But personally, it would seem to me if it were approved that there is another moon orbiting around the Earth, then the term ‘the moon’ would no longer be correct. They’d have to make up another name for it, or just call it ‘Moon’, because ‘the moon’ already implies that is the only/one moon.

  12. TheTradge says:

the lyrics are actually “YOU saw ME standing alone”

  13. atreideslegend says:

Not so, definite articles determine by context; for example if you went into a car park and said to your friend “Get in the car”, you would assume they would get into your car and not some random dude’s. ‘The’ can denote the primary of a multitude as well as a discrete unit.

  14. Albimar17 says:

Thanks for the well-explained reply; and a clear analogy as well.
Although not being a native speaker of English, I feel I can use this fact as a little excuse. ;)

  15. atreideslegend says:

Haha, thats ok! Being a non-native speaker your knowledge of English is probably better than most native speakers :P

  16. rugbyanden says:

    1:52 hahaha

  17. e105b5 says:

It’s 3 miles across so it isn’t a moon haha! I bet this show points out pluto isn’t a planet but a dwarf planet because of it’s size in an episode.

  18. leaningoak says:

It’s orbit is tied to Earth and directly altered by it each time the proximity approaches the point where a more conventional moon would pass its tied planet and begin a return trip. At that point Cruithe is actually repelled into an opposite and ‘bean’ shaped orbit. I’d say it’s a moon.

  19. bythefault says:

And he’s forgetting all the Moons in Korea, such as Ban-Ki Moon.

  20. viridismonasteriense says:

so many fantastic quotes in this clip! They really should rename the moon. All the other planets have wonderful names, such as Jupiter’s. Reminds me of Futurama, where one beauty contestant is said to come from Earth’s Moon and all the others come from fantastic sounding places.

  21. DraconianDebate says:

Cruithne is not a moon, it does not orbit the earth and is not a satellite of earth.

  22. Anthonyk312 says:

a moon is any natural satelite. some of saturns moons are only 1000 meters wide and they’re still moons.

  23. e105b5 says:

You got that from Wikipedia. No it is not. Same source; wiki states smaller natural sattelites are moonlets. I learned about the difference between sattelites and moons a few times also; size, although I cannot recall what the cut off point is.
